BrianGORTONIt's Brian's tenth anniversary today but it still feels like yesterday. He was far too unique to ever be forgotten and left us all so swiftly and far too soon.

Dad, you taught me so much. So much I didn't realise because I was so young. I've also had to learn how to do so many things after realising you'll never be there to show me how, or help me to learn. I think you would be quite surprised.

I don't know a lot about your life before I was born but I know you went to the TT races on the Isle of Man with your friends, so I have been over there this week to remember you. I know you would have loved it. Hopefully some of your friends from Liverpool who knew you at that time are reading this with a smile.

I will be arriving in Liverpool tomorrow and I will be going to all of our favourite places. I will of course be getting your favourite meal of fish and chips and I will go and see your favourite painting, of Napoleon, yes, at the top of the stairs at the Walker Art Gallery in town. I haven't forgotten.

If anyone still remembers Brian, I thank you for being part of his life. It meant so much to him and thank you for those who came to the funeral. I didn't have the words at the time but to see so many people there meant a lot to me, and I still remember it a decade on. I know that many of you made the journey from Liverpool and at your own expense and for that I am truly grateful.

If you did know Brian, or even if you didn't, please consider using today to do something positive in his memory. He was a character, but most of all, he was my dad.
